MOTHER’S DAY 2019 It could be said, the world would not have the gospel hymn Amazing Grace, written by John Newton, if it were not for his praying mother. John Newton‘s mother died just before he turned seven years old. But in her short time with her son, Mrs. Newton eagerly taught him God‘s word and prayed that he would become a minister of Jesus Christ when he grew up. Unfortunately, in the years that followed, no one would have guessed that John Newton would ever become a pastor. After his mothers death, John’s life took a turn that would lead him in a very different direction. He became a very rebellious person, working as a sailor on a slave ship. Even the toughest sailors, known for their cursing and drinking, were sickened by John’s bad attitude and foul language. He refused to follow the captains orders and constantly made fun of anyone who believed in God. Eventually, John became a follower of Christ, a pastor and a composer of 300 hymns. His most famous hymn being Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see. John Newton had a mother that believed in two things: the power of prayer and the salvation of her son. God answered her prayer by working a miracle in the heart of her son - John Newton. Join us at Friendly Baptist on Sunday morning as we celebrate Mother’s Day. Evening services are dismissed in honor of this special day.

THREE EPIC DAYS Believers around the world are preparing to observe earth’s saddest day in Christ’s crucifixion, and earth’s gladdest day in Christ’s resurrection! Poet Susan Coolidge wrote “lift up your heads, ye sorrowing ones, and be ye glad of heart, for Calvary and Easter day; for earth’s saddest day and gladdest day were just three days apart.” What Jesus accomplished on the cross in sacrificing His sinless life for sinners, paved the way for resurrection life. Only as we are united with Him in the likeness of His death, can we be certain of being raised with Him in the likeness of His resurrection. Those three days change everything! Glory - Glory - Glory! THE LOVE OF CHRIST Romans 8:38-39, ”For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. “ We who are in Christ are safe and secure. The list in Romans 8 covers all dimensions of time and space, as well as angels and demons, plus all other aspects of creation that would try separate us from the deep, deep, love of God. Their attempts are all in vain. The Triune love of Father, Son and Spirit surrounds believers with a love beyond anything we can fully comprehend. Come celebrate this wondrous love at Friendly Baptist Church.

He alone is self existent – the uncreated Creator, Who told Moses His name is “I AM THAT I AM!” All of creation depends upon Him.” There truly is no other God. SOLI DEO GLORIA TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY As individual believers and as a church family, we do all we can to give God alone all the glory due to His great name. Jesus said in John 15:5, “apart from Me you can do nothing”. Those words describe our total need for the Lord’s help. The German composer Johann Sebastian Bach understood this concept and it shaped his illustrious career. He believed music was a gift from God to be used for the glory of God. Beneath his compositions, Bach penned the initials SDG, standing for Soli Deo Gloria, for Bach gave credit where credit was due. Do you give proper thanks and praise to God? Are you living your life for the glory of your Creator? Paul wrote in I Corinthians 10:31 whatever you do, even the most basic things like eating a meal, do it all for the glory of God! When believers arrive in heaven, we will join those who have gone before in singing the mighty chorus from Revelation 10 - Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created. THE MISSOURIANS SUNDAY 02-10-2019 @ 6:30pm God and His people love music! Bring a friend and enjoy this wonderful concert. Admission is free and a love offering will be received. The Bible mentions music and singing hundreds of times. After all, the book of Psalms is a songbook. Music comes from God, and whether we are performing or listening, we are giving a gift back to God. Martin Luther said “beautiful music is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us”. II Kings 3:15 reads “and when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him”. As created beings, we are often frightened or disturbed by so many of life’s daily issues. However, God, the uncreated Creator fears nothing and no one. He is the biggest, wisest and strongest of all. This powerful verse in Isaiah makes it clear that God is not deaf or blind to your needs. The God of heaven and earth is with you right in the thick of your life issues. He is nearby to help, willing to help and so kind in His help. Jesus said “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”. This is our hope - If God be for us, who can be against us!
LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING Friendly Baptist is partnering with Southern Baptists around the world in the annual Lottie Moon Christmas offering for international missions. We are praying we will meet and exceed our 2018 goal of $1,800. God has given a clear vision for every church to reach the world with the good news of Jesus Christ. That vision is expressed in Revelation 7:9 where you find a multitude from every continent and language standing before God’s throne and before Christ the Lamb, all dressed in white, worshiping the Lord in heaven. Friendly Baptist wants to walk in step with the Holy Spirit in this matter. The need to send the gospel around the world has never been greater as we have thousands of missionaries on the field who need and deserve our generous and sacrificial support. May we rise to the occasion and give of ourselves and our resources to see that the gospel is successfully sent to the ends of the earth.
DECEMBER 2018 December 2018 has arrived and Andy Williams was right “it’s the most wonderful time of the year”. The 70th annual Branson Adoration Parade was glorious! Christ’s humble arrival is celebrated around the world. We pray December 2018 will be a time when you join the shepherds and wise men to worship Christ, the newborn king. Author and pastor Max Lucado wrote “were it not for the shepherds, there would have been no reception. And were it not for a group of stargazers, there would have been no gifts”. Oh come let us adore HIM - Christ the Lord!

THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION SUNDAY 11-18-2018 Come and enjoy the Friendly Baptist 2018 Thanksgiving celebration. Be our guest for the Prospective Members Class led by Pastor Dunn at 9:00am. The Bible text for the 10am morning worship is Colossians 4:2, “Continue in prayer and be watchful in the same with thanksgiving.” Following the service, make plans to take part in our Thanksgiving banquet. VETERAN’S DAY 11-11-2018 On this Veterans’ Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free - Dan Lipinski We hope every veteran has a wonderful Veterans’ Day. HUDSON TAYLOR MISSIONARY TO CHINA Years ago, Hudson Taylor was a Baptist missionary to China and founder of the China Inland Mission. He spent 51 years in China during which time he oversaw bringing 800+ missionaries to the country and living to see 18,000 Christian conversions. The conversion of many thousands in China continues to this day! Hudson said “I am no longer anxious about anything, as I realize the Lord is able to carry out His will, and His will is mine. It makes no matter where He places me, or how. That is rather for Him to consider than for me; for in the easiest positions He must give me His grace, and in the most difficult, His grace is sufficient. Christ is either Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all. We must go forward on our knees.” Friendly Baptist is thankful for the enduring legacy of Hudson Taylor. We celebrate with joy the faithfulness of this wonderful missionary. May all who come behind us, find us faithful - Pastor Monty
